These treatments offer additional benefits, including:

  • Quicker treatment times (approximately 15-30 minutes for 1 treatment)
  • Few and temporary side effects
  • Long lasting and visible results
  • Little to no recovery time
  • Natural looking results

5 Tips for Speeding Up Recovery from Your Botox Treatment

Botox is often referred to as a ‘lunchtime procedure’ because it takes less than 30 minutes to perform and requires very little downtime afterwards. That means that you can return to your daily activities immediately after your treatment. However, you may experience certain side effects, including:

  • Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Redness in the treatment area
  • Some pain in the treatment area

To ensure the fastest and most efficient recovery, here are some tips you can follow:

1. Avoid Heat

Botox treatments are administered using a tiny needle that is so small, bruising doesn’t tend to occur. However, there is always a chance of this, so to reduce your risk of bruising, avoid heat for the first 24 hours.

This includes avoiding:

  • Hot showers
  • Baths
  • Hot tubs

Can I use ice? If you want to apply ice to the area, make sure to leave it on for 20 seconds or less in a particular area, as you don’t want to over-freeze your skin with ice.

2. Never Rub the Injection Site

For the safest and best Botox results, you want to avoid stimulating movement near the injection site for at least the first 24 hours. Although Botox has no associated downtime, it can take a few hours to settle. By rubbing or touching the injection site at that time, you risk shifting the Botox to a different, unintended muscle.

Keep in mind: Slight lumps, redness, and bumps at the injection site aren’t uncommon after a Botox treatment and they will disappear after a few days. Also remember that it can take up to 1 week for your results to be fully visible.

5 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR BOTOX RESULTS LAST

3. Avoid Strenuous Exercise for at Least 24 Hours

After your Botox treatment, you want to avoid any strenuous activity, as this will keep you comfortable while your body continues to recover. Refraining from exercise will also give your Botox time to settle, avoiding the risk of your results becoming uneven, or the Botox moving to an unintended muscle.

4. Avoid Lying Down on Your Stomach

Many cosmetic surgeons will make the recommendation that it’s best to remain upright for at least four hours after your Botox treatment. If you do want to lie down, make sure to lie on your back.

Why is this important? As your Botox settles, you want to avoid anything that could ‘squash’ your face. Correct lounging and sleeping habits after your procedure can help ensure optimal results.

5. Avoid Using NSAIDs or Blood Thinners

NSAIDs, such as Advil, Motrin, and Aspirin, can thin your blood, which may increase your risk of bruising. Make sure you don’t take these medications for at least 24 hours after your Botox procedure and ALWAYS make sure to tell your cosmetic surgeon about your current medications before getting a Botox treatment. This will ensure your safety and best results.
