How To Take Care of Your Skin Following a Botox Treatment

Are you considering undergoing a Botox treatment? For the safest and most natural looking results, here are some important aftercare tips following your cosmetic injectable procedure.

Thanks to the incredible advancements in cosmetic treatments, patients no longer have to opt for surgical procedures such as facelifts and brow lifts to achieve all their anti-aging goals.

Today, non-surgical cosmetic treatments such as Botox and Juvederm are becoming more popular, because of their convenience and affordability. These treatments have many benefits, including:

  • Lower costs
  • Fewer side effects
  • Long lasting and visible results
  • No downtime
  • Quick treatments (approximately 15 minutes for one treatment)

Most Common Botox Aftercare FAQs

One of the greatest advantages of opting for Botox treatments is that there is really no associated downtime. The procedure is quick, non-invasive, and safe, and it typically takes 15-20 minutes, after which you can return to your normal activities.

However, taking care of your skin after your cosmetic procedure is important to achieve the best results. Here are some of the most common Botox aftercare FAQs:

1. Is There Anything I Shouldn’t Do After Botox?

To allow the Botox to work optimally in the target muscle(s), your skin specialist will advise you to take several precautions, which includes:

  • Avoid strenuous activity or exercise for at least 24 hours
  • Do not rub or massage the injected area
  • Keep upright for at least five hours. Try to avoid lying on your front
  • Avoid alcohol and any blood thinning medication prior to the treatment to prevent bruising
  • Avoid headwear that is tightly fitted across your forehead

2. Are There Any Possible Side Effects I Should Be Aware Of?

In most cases, there are no side effects associated with Botox. However, different patients are affected in different ways and a small minority of people can experience the following:

  • Bruising
  • Small bumps in the treatment area
  • Headaches
  • Redness in the treatment area
  • Swelling

Generally these side effects are temporary and recovery is swift. Talk to your plastic surgeon if you have any questions or concerns over side effects such as bruising or headaches.

3. Can I Wear Makeup After My Botox Treatment?

Ideally, you should avoid makeup for at least 1-2 hours following your treatment. However, mineral makeup may be applied after your procedure. Remember, do not apply too much pressure during this activity to ensure that the Botox doesn’t disperse from the treatment area.

4. Can I Keep Having Botox?

Yes! Botox doesn’t accumulate in your system and it’s often recommended that you have repeat treatments every 3-4 months to keep up your great results. Once the effects have worn off, it is safe for you to top up treatments in the same area. It’s also safe to have multiple treatments in different areas at the same time.
