Overview: Is bigger really better? Maybe when it comes to your bank account, but surprisingly a recent study has shown that both men and women don’t prefer over-sized breasts. Read the following blog for more information on the results from the research on finding the perfect breast shape.
A recent study published in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal looked at finding the ideal breast shape desired by women. The research found 100 models with varying natural breast sizes and their pictures were shown to 1,415 people. The survey consisted of people of all of different ages, races, nationalities, and genders and they were asked to rate the breasts of the models. There are two areas of the breasts that the study used to determine what participants find attractive. The first is called the “upper pole” which is the tissue above the nipple and the second is “lower pole” that consists of tissue below the nipple.
The results found that the most favoured proportion is 45% upper pole and 55% lower pole with a shape that extends outwards. Broken down even further, 87% of women and 90% of men surveyed all preferred the 45:55 ratio. A surprising find was that both men and women do not necessarily prefer over-sized breasts. It’s been a long perception that men like over-sized and large breasts. However, that view might have been true in the past, but the results in the study show that the new trend is towards the 45:55 and a preference for natural looking breasts.
An interesting discovery in the study found that the preferences the viewers favoured were of a full convex shape in the upper pole especially when the models had clothes on. This look is commonly achieved by wearing push up bras. When it came to viewing the naked breast, the full convex shape was not as popular compared to when the models were clothed.
Some people may criticize this and similar studies as vain and make connections to the portrayal of negative body images. However, plastic surgeons are utilizing the data so their patients can have as much information as possible when deciding what their desired breast enhancement will be. Dr. Ladak also acknowledges that not every perspective patient can physically achieve certain breast shapes. This is a prime reason Dr. Ladak has extensive consultations so women can realistically achieve their top breast enhancement potential.
The Bottom Line: The research involved in finding the ideal breast shape will ultimately help plastic surgeons give their patients the breast surgery that they most desire, whether it be breast augmentation, breast lifts, breast reduction and breast reconstruction. At his plastic surgery practice in Edmonton, Dr. Ladak is continuously conducting his own research and is always informed on current studies, trends and methodology. This ensures that all his perspective patients can make decisions that will result in the greatest possible outcome.
