Recovering from Breast Augmentation Surgery

Here at Alberta Plastic Surgery, patient care is always our top priority before and after any plastic surgery procedure. Breast augmentation surgery is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in Canada and its popularity has made it extremely safe. As with any surgery, the body requires a period of healing afterward. During your consultations at our practice in Edmonton, Dr. Adil Ladak at Alberta Plastic Surgery will have get you prepared before the surgery and monitor your progress afterwards.

There are simple changes you can make at home to make your post-surgery recovery as smooth as possible, starting with making household items that you frequently use more accessible, such as having dishes placed on lower shelves, for example. Another way you can prepare is to pick up any prescription medication that Dr. Ladak may have prescribed for you in advance of your surgery, as this can minimize any discomfort post-procedure. Dr. Ladak also advises bringing a comfortable sports bra and loose clothing the day of your procedure, something that is easy to put on. Since breast augmentation surgery requires you to be under general anesthesia, and you will most likely be going home on the same day, have a family member or friend drive you home. Dr. Ladak’s team will also show you how to change dressings, to ensure that the incision sites remain clean.

Immediately following your breast augmentation surgery, you will have some post-procedure swelling and bruising. Other normal symptoms can include tightness of the chest and your breathing may feel slightly restricted. It will take you around 5 to 10 days before you have fully recovered. Over-the-counter pain killers will often relieve any physical discomforts from the surgery, and our team will monitor your usage of all medications.

Breast augmentation surgery is a procedure that has immediate results and you should be ready for a new look in the mirror! A good problem you will encounter is with the increased breast size, clothes may not fit the same way they did before. Becoming happier with the way you look will garner you with an abundance of confidence and greater self-image, so be prepared for an enhanced outlook on life!
