Before and After Your Cosmetic Injectable Skin Treatment

To ensure your skin treatment procedure is carried out safely and successfully, it’s extremely important to have it administered by a trained professional. In addition to that, it’s often recommended that patients take certain steps to minimize the risk of any complications.

Pre-Skin Treatment Tips For Botox and Dermal Filler Patients

  • Do NOT drink alcohol for at least one day prior to your skin treatment as alcohol has the effect of thinning the blood and may increase your risk of bruising.
  • Stop any anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications for at least 14 days before your treatment. Such medication can increase your risk of bruising and swelling.
  • Plan out your skin treatment carefully. Schedule your Botox or Tissue Filler treatment AT LEAST 2 weeks before the special event, such as a holiday or wedding, as results can take up to one week to become visible.
  • Check for any rashes, cold sores, or blemishes on the treatment area. If you are suffering from any of these, reschedule your appointment. (If you have a history of cold sores, talk to your provider, as they can put you on antiviral medication before your procedure).
  • Remember to eat a good breakfast before your cosmetic treatment. This will decrease your chances of feeling lightheaded during and after the procedure.
  • Check your candidacy for these skin treatments. Remember, you are NOT a suitable candidate for Botox or Juvederm if you’re breastfeeding or pregnant.

Post-Skin Care Tips For Botox Patients

Botox is one of the most popular anti-aging skin treatments around the world. When administered by a professional, it’s a safe and effective way to rejuvenate your appearance.

Here are some simple post-treatment care tips to ensure you get the most satisfactory Botox results:

  • Refrain from massaging the treated area for AT LEAST three hours after your skin treatment.
  • DO NOT undergo any facial/laser skin treatments or microdermabrasion after your Botox procedure for at least 10 days.
  • Remember that it can take up to one week for the results to be seen. If your desired appearance can’t be seen after 14 days, talk to your doctor about your options.
  • Don’t strain, lift anything heavy, or do any kind of vigorous activity for at least 6 hours after your treatment. This will ensure that the Botox stays in the injected area and doesn’t spread.
  • Avoid sun and heat for at least 72 hours after your treatment. Remember to ALWAYS wear sunblock (SPF 30 or higher) whenever you’re out in the sun.
  • Avoid consuming large amounts of alcohol or salts, as this will increase your chances of swelling.

Post-Skin Care Tips For Dermal Filler Patients

Dermal fillers are a great way to naturally enhance your appearance, and while they are extremely safe to use, it’s important to care for your skin properly after the treatment to ensure the best results.

Here are some things to remember during your recovery period:

  • Avoid massaging the area or any significant movement of the treated area, unless advised otherwise by the provider.
  • Avoid vigorous exercise for at least 24 hours after your procedure.
  • Stay away from the sun and heat for 3 days and when you do go outside, remember to use sunblock (SPF 30 or higher) and a hat.
  • Avoid alcohol and an excess amount of salts to reduce the chances of swelling in the treatment area.
  • Apply a cool compress to your treated area if there is swelling for 15 minutes each hour to reduce any discomfort.
  • Use Tylenol for any pain you may experience.
  • Sleeping face up and slightly elevated will reduce any swelling.
  • Until the swelling and redness have reduced, it’s important to avoid the intense heat in the treatment area. This includes sunbathing, tanning, saunas, hot tubs, and hot wax.
  • Avoid extreme colds, such as skiing or other winter sports.
