Breast augmentation is a surgery designed to increase or restore breast size using silicone gel implants, saline implants or in some cases fat transfer. Women who wish to enhance, regain or restore balance to their figures may choose to undergo breast augmentation surgery.
Women may consider breast augmentation if:
- They want to create a better proportioned or more appealing figure
- Pregnancy, aging or weight loss has affected the size and/or shape of their breasts
- They wish to restore symmetry if one breast is smaller than the other
Breast augmentation is a long term solution that can help women achieve their ideal figures. However, breast implants do require monitoring and breast augmentation also carries with it the normal risks associated with all surgical procedures.
You may be a good candidate for breast augmentation surgery if:
- You believe your breasts are too small for your body.
- You feel self-conscious wearing a swimsuit or form-fitting or low-cut tops.
- Clothes that fit your hips are too large at the bust line.
- Your breasts have become smaller or less firm after you've had children.
- Your breasts have become smaller due to weight loss.
- One of your breasts is noticeably smaller than the other
There are several options available to increase your bust size:
Saline filled breast implants are filled with sterile salt water and can either be pre-filled before surgery or filled at the time of the surgery so minor size adjustments can be made.
Cohesive gel silicone implants are also known as "form stable" implants. They are made from crosslinked molecules of silicone, making them firmer and thicker than traditional silicone filled breast implants and better able to hold their shape.
An Autologous Fat Transfer is a procedure that uses liposuction to remove fat from parts of your body with abundant fat cells (like your thighs, buttocks, abdomen and/or hips). These fat cells are then refined and injected into your breasts. This method is the least common one used and is still undergoing clinical studies and research to determine its safety and effectiveness.
