What Are Tissue Fillers?
Tissue fillers are a synthetic or naturally derived gel-like substance, such as hyaluronic acid, that is artfully injected into the treatment area to create volume. Fillers are often used to smooth lines and wrinkles, enhance lips, treat depressed scarred areas, improve facial symmetry, and fill out areas that are gaunt or sunken. Unlike BOTOX®, tissue fillers do not interfere with nerves or muscles, but rather plump the treated area with the material injected under the skin with an ultra-fine needle.
Who Is It For?
The ideal candidate for treatment with under eye fillers will be in great overall health, not smoke, and have reasonable expectations for results. Under eye fillers are amazing to help with loss of volume and fine lines around the eye, but will not help with dark circles (hyper pigmentation) or puffiness and bags. Dermal fillers are ideal for treating hollowed eyes and wrinkles. If you are seeking to address other concerns as mentioned above, there are great treatments that can be used in combination with fillers to achieve your desired results.
How Does It Work?
Hyaluronic dermal fillers are the most common for treating the sensitive area under your eye. This skin is thinner and the tissues more delicate than elsewhere on your face. A certified and experienced plastic surgeon will mark out the injection points, cleanse the area with an antibacterial agent, and carefully inject the filler, plumping the tissues under the skin, while monitoring results until the ideal outcome is achieved.
How Long Does It Last?
Under eye fillers will generally last between 8-10 months, and even slightly longer in some patients. Because there is minimal movement around your eyes, this area will stay plumper, longer than your lips that are likely moving much more frequently (think: talking, chewing, kissing, laughing). You should also note that the filler will dissolve very slowly over time so the decrease in volume will not be dramatic or noticeable. When you feel the time is right to replump, you can book an appointment for a new treatment and no one will be the wiser.
Does It Hurt?
Tissue fillers do require an injection which can make some people more uncomfortable than others, but your plastic surgeon can apply a numbing cream prior to the procedure so will likely feel little to no discomfort.
How Is The Recovery?
This under eye treatment is non-invasive and has no downtime-- you can leave the office and resume your day immediately following the procedure. Some patients will experience slight redness and swelling immediately following this skin treatment, but any swelling will usually resolve in 1-2 days. You can use cold compresses and sleep with your head elevated to reduce swelling or bruising. You should notice that your desired results are apparent around day three.
A Rejuvenated Outlook
If you are seeking to refresh your appearance and subtly address hollowing or wrinkles and fine lines under your eyes without taking the full leap into an extensive surgical solution, consider under eye tissue fillers. This safe and non-invasive procedure can be easily completed in your plastic surgeon's office with no downtime.
